The forum of Northern Bishops of the Pentecostal movement has commended the chief of army staff for charging troop to be more committed in the bid to defeat terrorism in the country. He made the charge at a workshop organized at the army resource center in Abuja on Tuesday. The President of the forum, Bishops Abel Akahs noted that the charge made by the chief of army staff was timely and intended to motivate troops on the battle front as opposed to the negative narrative been peddled in the media. The clergy men decried media criticisms against the chief of army staff saying it was an art of pure misconception.
Ordinarily, the chief of army staff ought to have been commended for leading by example and not been berated. We should try to draw the line between politics and service to the nation, except of course we are not ready to defeat terrorism in the country. The spirit demonstrated by the chief of army staff shows commitment in tandem with the ideals of president Buhari who has always led by example.
We are proud of the sacrifices of the army leadership in full compliment of the other security agencies to ensure our safety. It is however unfortunate that some elements, particularly political figures have taken the sincere comments of the chief of army staff out of context for pecuniary gains . This is most unfortunate and must be rejected. As leaders of the church, we are concerned that if such misleading narratives are allowed to go unchecked, then it is only then that the morale of our troops will truly be dampened.
The group further called on president Buhari to ensure that he consolidates on the gains recorded by the military leadership so as not to tamper or destabilize the existing security structure in the country.
They appealed to Nigerians to censor every opinion raised in the media especially now that politicians are waiting to destabilize the government.
